Sanofi has selected the first potential treatment to come out of its AI-enabled research collaboration with Recursion.

The molecule is an oral small-molecule treatment being developed for inflammatory disease. It was identified using Recursion’s AI-enabled drug discovery platform together with Sanofi’s expertise in immunology and drug development. The program has now entered Sanofi’s development pipeline, with a Phase 1 study planned for 2027.

This is an interesting milestone because the work has progressed from computational discovery to a molecule that Sanofi believes is promising enough to take forward for further testing.

For pharma R&D teams, this gives a practical way to assess AI-assisted discovery: whether the molecules identified through these platforms can move into the same development process as other potential medicines.
