Prompt Templates for Busy Leaders – 1: Just Help Me Say It Better

Image
Background As a leader a large part of my day is spent in communicating with people. Be it emails, team updates, client communication and anything and everything in between, I have to sit, think through, and craft a message that strikes the right tone, uses the right language, and conveys the right content. I’ve often wished for an assistant who could take the rough notes I’ve scribbled and turn it into a well-written message just like I want.  I can of course write a good one if I have the time — but as you know, that’s not always a luxury we have. That’s where LLMs like ChatGPT come in handy. They’re like that ideal assistant, just waiting to help; you just need to tell them what to do. I’m sure many business leaders are already using them extensively. But I’ve found that when you give them clear and focused instructions, the output gets even better, closer to what you actually had in mind. So I’ve decided to put together a series of prompt templates you can use in your ev...

Part 1: Prompt engineering: The Art of Delegating to Generative AI

Image
Ever wondered why some people get spot-on, helpful responses from AI, while others end up with vague or confusing answers? It’s not just luck—it’s the power of good prompting. The way you ask the AI to do something matters—a lot. This is part one of a three-part series where we’ll explore what prompt engineering is and the different techniques you can use to guide AI effectively. Part two will cover the constituents of a prompt. In part thre, we’ll dive into how to create great prompts—with practical tips and examples to help you get the most out of AI. What is prompt engineering? So, what exactly is prompt engineering? It’s the art of telling an AI model what you want it to do. But why is it called an art—and yes, also a science? Because the way you frame your request can completely change the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of the response. To understand why prompting is such a big deal, you first need to know how these AI models actually work. The popular chat companions we’ve all...

When Google Starts Talking and ChatGPT Starts Searching

Ever since the time browsers were invented, the world of knowledge became open to us all. Now we didn't have to worry about not knowing things, we had search engines like google to help us. So much so that Google has now become a verb from a noun. We just say Google it!  I recently read an article on ‘Prompt Engineering and AI institute’ by Sunil Ramlochan, where they discussed OpenAI introducing web search capabilities. It got me thinking—are we witnessing a shift where AI assistants are becoming search engines and search engines are turning into AI assistants? It’s fascinating how the way we find and interact with information is evolving right before our eyes. A quick history It's hard to believe now, but just 25 years ago, the idea of "searching" the World Wide Web was practically non-existent for most people. The World Wide Web, as we know it, was only invented in 1989. In the early 90s, it was still a relatively small and obscure network. Most people were not e...
