Staying Connected: With Humans or AI Companions?

The Need to Balance the Use of Technology and Real-World Relationships Image generated using ImageStudio This morning I read an article from MIT discussing the growing concern about addiction to AI companions and thought of sharing it with you. As new technologies emerge, so do worries about their potential misuse, overuse, and impact on our lives. While some fears are unfounded there are some that are rooted in reality. One such concern that we should all be aware about and take seriously is addiction to the new technology. In one of my previous articles I had compared different AI companions and their potential to be great chat companions. This technology can prove to be a boon to those who are suffering from loneliness. Today, however, I wish to discuss the other side of the coin - the risk of over indulgence or dependence on them to the extent that they become addictive. The newer generations are already becoming more and more socially disconnected because of their attachmen...

Should companies train their own LLM?

Image courtsey: Rajashree Rajadhyax Enterprises all over the globe have started using Generative AI. They are using it for improving their communication, enhancing efficiency of their people and serving their customers better, to mention a few of the many areas where GenAI is being used. The adoption of GenAI by industry is much faster than earlier AI techniques such as machine learning and computer vision. The credit must go to the capability and versatility of foundation models, especially the large language models. The chief attraction of these models lies in the fact that they can be used directly, without training or modification. This allows users to try them for various applications and settle on the use cases most suitable for them. In this article, we will discuss an important question about the LLMs: should companies train LLMs? It is true that many LLMs can be used without training. But training models can bring some special advantages to their users. We will see both sides...

Gen AI Glossary

Large language models (LLMs) are becoming a big part of our everyday lives, but the jargon surrounding them can be confusing. To make things easier, I've created a glossary of the 10 most common terms you'll encounter in the world of LLMs. Starting with the basics and moving to more advanced concepts, this guide will help you understand these terms better. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or someone looking to integrate the latest technologies into your daily work, I hope this glossary proves useful. Illustration by Rajashree Rajadhyax Model There are computer programs that can find patterns in large data sets. They can take in information, analyze it, and then make decisions based on what they learn. Their learning is encapsulated into a set of numbers. It's a representation of what the algorithms have learned. This representation in the form of numbers is called a model . During training this set of numbers also called as the parameters are adjusted so that the mod...
